‘Black to White’ is the first novel by this talented author, Sam Hayward.  A distraught widow, Susie Chester, begins to deal with her loss with help from her ‘Guardian Angel’ and friends. Progress comes with pain alongside love and hope and the deep feelings are sensitively and realistically handled. The characters soon gripped my attention and I was willing Susie to succeed. I couldn’t help empathizing with her and, once begun, I was emotionally involved and had to read on until I reached the end. A picturesque cottage with a beautiful garden, the seashore and a small bustling town are the backdrop to this timeless story. Woven into the pages are acute observations of the natural world with the changing days and seasons a foil to Susie’s journey from overwhelming grief.  In essence this book is about you and me and how we deal with the major crises of our lives. It is an excellent and thought-provoking read.  Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down as I was instantly transported into her world and needed to know what happened to her. Subtle, realistic and fascinating twists and turns.
